What Makes EP Different
Independent by Design
We operate outside formal peacebuilding systems and are not influenced by donor priorities that constrain most peacebuilding efforts. We support our students to find creative approaches to transform the causes of conflict as they define them, in ways that traditional peacebuilding efforts cannot.
Original Tools & Frameworks
Our courses are built around original tools and frameworks that exist nowhere else, all developed from over a decade of research mapping 5,000+ peace organizations worldwide, with insights on creative and effective ways to build peace drawn from 800+ community surveys across 100+ countries.
A Global Community of Peacebuilders
Our community includes peacebuilders from all walks of life in over 100 countries, building peace in a wide variety of ways. Through our scholarship program, our optional annual live cohorts bring together participants from diverse contexts and backgrounds to share experiences, perspectives, and ideas. Connect with fellow peacebuilders, support one another, and build friendships that last a lifetime.
The Peacebuilder Typology
The framework woven into everything we teach.
Our Peacebuilder Typology maps hundreds of ways to build peace, organized into 24 types of peacebuilders across 9 categories. It was developed from over a decade of research, a database of 5,000+ peace organizations worldwide, and insights from 800+ community surveys across 100+ countries. It is the most comprehensive mapping of peacebuilding practice available anywhere.
The Typology runs through all three courses, with distinct applications in each that deepen as you progress:
In Foundations of Peacebuilding, you work through a structured self-assessment to identify your top 3 peacebuilder types and discover your peacebuilding superpower, the unique combination of strengths that defines how you can make the greatest impact for peace. You'll explore organizations, networks, and opportunities connected to your types, discover career and life trajectories you never knew existed, and build a roadmap to guide you on your peacebuilding journey.
In Practical Conflict Analysis, the Typology was used to create thematic analysis tools you will use to analyze nuanced conflict dynamics on any theme you choose and identify suitable entry points for conflict transformation.
In Strategic Planning for Peacebuilders, the Typology informs the design of your strategic plan. You draw from the full spectrum of 24 types to identify the most effective approaches to transform the causes of conflict as you understand them, opening up creative programming possibilities far beyond the limited range of project types that dominate conventional peacebuilding.
The result: whether you take one course or all three, the Typology expands your sense of what peacebuilding can be and opens up new possibilities for creating change.
Three-Course Pathway
Each course stands on its own and can be taken based on your specific interests and needs. Together, they form a complete professional development pathway from understanding the field, to analyzing conflict, to taking strategic action.
Foundations of Peacebuilding reveals the full landscape of peacebuilding and helps you find your place in it. Using our Peacebuilder Typology, you'll discover your unique strengths, explore organizations and networks connected to your peacebuilder types, and build a roadmap to guide you on your peacebuilding journey. This is the recommended starting point, whether you're new to peacebuilding or an experienced practitioner ready for original tools and fresh perspectives.
Practical Conflict Analysis equips you with the analytical skills to produce your own professional-quality conflict analysis of any conflict or social issue you choose. You'll work through our original conflict analysis process using our Typology of Violence and thematic analysis tools built from the Peacebuilder Typology, uncovering causes of conflict that conventional frameworks aren't designed to surface and identifying entry points to transform them.
Strategic Planning for Peacebuilders turns your understanding of a conflict or social issue into a concrete plan of action. You'll work through our 10-step strategic planning process, using our Comprehensive Map of Peacebuilding Entry Points and our Peacebuilding Theory of Change Builder to produce a complete, professional-quality strategic plan for creative and effective peace initiatives.

Which course should I start with?
Foundations of Peacebuilding is the recommended starting point for most people, whether you're new to peacebuilding or an experienced practitioner looking for fresh perspectives. Even with years of experience or a peace studies degree, our Peacebuilder Typology and original frameworks will reveal approaches, career paths, and possibilities for building peace that no other training or university program covers. If you're specifically looking for analytical skills and are less interested in exploring new peacebuilding approaches beyond what you already know, Practical Conflict Analysis may be the right fit. If you're ready to plan and implement a peace initiative, Strategic Planning for Peacebuilders is designed for that. The courses are designed to build on one another, with the recommended sequence of Foundations, then Conflict Analysis, then Strategic Planning.
What is the Certificate in Applied Peacebuilding and Conflict Transformation?
The certificate program includes all three courses at $850 USD (save $200 compared to enrolling individually at $350 each). You'll complete the full pathway from understanding the landscape of peacebuilding, to analyzing the causes of conflict, to producing a strategic plan for taking action. Unlike the individual course certificates, which are awarded for participation, the certificate program requires you to complete and submit your final assignments for each course: your peacebuilding roadmap, your conflict analysis, and your strategic plan. Taylor will review each assignment and provide personal feedback to help you produce high-quality work you can use professionally. The certificate is awarded upon completion of all three courses, their final assignments, and engagement during live cohorts. Foundations of Peacebuilding is available now. Practical Conflict Analysis launches August 2026 and Strategic Planning for Peacebuilders launches November 2026. When you enroll in the certificate program, you get immediate access to Foundations and are automatically enrolled in each subsequent course as it launches.
