Lesson 3: Jobs in Peace - Peace in Jobs

Before You Begin

There are relatively few jobs explicitly labeled "peacebuilding," and even peace and conflict studies graduates enter a crowded market for them. But peace can be brought into almost any job, in almost any field. Use this lesson to see the fuller range of jobs in peace, and to start noticing how peace might already fit (or could fit) into the work you already do.

You'll learn:

  • Identify jobs in peace relevant to your interests, both common roles and lesser-known niche ones
  • Recognize how peace can be integrated into almost any profession, and identify ways to bring it into your own field

Key takeaways:

  • Formal jobs in peace are real but limited: common roles like humanitarian work, mediation, and peace processes, plus a much wider set of niche roles most people never hear about
  • Peace can be integrated into nearly any profession. You don't need a job titled "peace" to make a difference

Your workbook activity: Turn to Module 2, Lesson 3, "Mapping Jobs in Peace and Peace in Jobs." Scan the full tables of jobs in peace and peace in jobs, and notice what catches your interest.
